2,000 WIPNET Women Benefit Alfalit's Donation
About 2,000 Women of the West African Network for Peace Building/WIPNET Liberia are benefiting from our biannual donations of food and non-food items. The donation is made possible with support from Alfalit International, based in Miami Florida, USA and it’s valued over $ 50,000 United States Dollars.
The items include rice 2,000 bags of rice, 330 cartoons of vegetable oil, 83 cartoons of beans, 100 cartoons of vita cube and 6 bales of lappers benefiting the network in 7 counties, Montserrado, Bong, Margibi, Lofa, Gbarpolu, Bong and Bomi counties.
This year’s donation is the biggest since Alfalit Liberia began the biannual donation to the women 2012. Alfalit Liberia’s Communication and Program Promotion Officer, Evelyn Kpadeh Seagbeh at the start of the Donation on October 4, 2019 said, the donation is in fulfillment of the committed made by Alfalit Liberia and terms of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two organizations in September 2019.
“Today we have come again to keep to our commitment and our partnership. You all know that apart from Alfalit teaching some of you to read and write every year Alfalit Liberia with support hands from head office we give you this donation every Christmas and July 26, so this donation is not a new thing.”
“What we do each year for WIPNET we cannot pay you for your continuous prayers and advocacy for peace in Liberia which we all are enjoying, but this is Alfalit International way to often say we recognize and appreciate your work. At Alfalit, we aware that most of you are single mothers and widows so our donation is just a way to support you” Evelyn Kpadeh Seagbeh told the women at WANEP’s Liberia’s head office in Monrovia.
Each year, Alfalit Liberia, donates food and non-food items to the Women in Peace Building Network during Liberia’s two major holidays, namely Independence and Christmas. But due the delay in the procurement process for the July’s donation, the Alfalit Liberia is making good of her commitment this October.
The following regions of WIPNET Network benefiting from the donation are, Montserrado 672 beneficiaries, Bong County 720, Lofa 158, Grand Bassa 210, Margibi 63, Bomi 152 and Gbarpolu 85 women.
Speaking at the start of the donation, WANEP’s National Program Coordinator, Mr. Mr. Philip M. Kollie thanked Alfalit Liberia for the donation describing the donation as a dream come through for the women of the Network.
“We are very delighted for this dream come through. Couple of weeks ago, we signed this MOU officially between Alfalit Liberia and WANEP Liberia so by seeing the team coming to start distribution today we are happy”
“With the smiles on the faces of these women is a sign of appreciation. These women have worked and their work have been recognized across the country and across the globe; so these are initiatives that are being put together to actually help to make the happy and for upkeep. We are grateful to Alfalit Liberia and Alfalit International” Kollie said.
The distribution which commenced over the weekend in Montserrado is continuing to the remaining 6 counties which is expected to come to an end in 2 days.
It can be recalled, in September 2019 Alfalit Liberia and Women in Peace Building Network (WIPNET) through its parent organization, the West African Network in Peace Building (WANEP) formalized the 12 years of relationship by signing a memorandum of understanding to intensify the fight against illiteracy common to women.
Alfalit Liberia since 2008 has helped members of WIPNET learn how to read and write though our adult literacy and job skills program, ad awarded them with now the biannual distribution to network to members the country.
